An Exceptional Occurrence, 1950, by Eileen Agar (1899-1991) in the collection of the Derek Williams Trust will go on show this week in a definitive retrospective exhibition of Agar’s work at Whitechapel Gallery, London. This touring exhibition charts Agar’s ground-breaking career from the 1920s to 1990s. It examines her early work at The Slade, through her experimentation with Cubism and her inclusion in the 1936 International Surrealist Exhibition to her later compositions of lyrical abstraction.
Eileen Agar: Angel of Anarchy features over 150 works, from public and private collections, including this work from the Derek Williams Trust collection. It also includes newly discovered archival material revealing Agar as one of the most dynamic, bold and prolific artists of her generation.
